Located on Christchurch’s beachfront, the New Brighton Surf Life Saving Club has been transformed into a modern, community-focused hub. Designed by South by Southeast with Snøhetta, the building draws inspiration from driftwood forms, creating a sculptural yet functional landmark.


To endure the harsh coastal conditions, Accoya cladding and decking were specified along with Tricoya soffit linings. These materials were chosen for their sustainability, low maintenance, and proven durability in exposed environments.


The finished result balances performance with design – offering robust protection for lifesaving operations on the lower level, while elevated observation decks and open community spaces connect the club with its natural surroundings.
