Timeline

Our History

1987 – ITI Begins in Australia

Established in Five Dock, NSW, ITI (then known as Independent Timber Importers) set out to redefine timber distribution in Australia. With a focus on quality, service, and innovation, ITI invested in large-scale distribution centres, product development, and service models that set new standards in the industry.

2002 – Becoming ITI

To reflect its innovative spirit, Independent Timber Importers rebranded to simply ITI in 2002, launching the “Innovative Timber Ideas” identity. This captured the company’s commitment to pushing boundaries in product development, sustainability, and service.

2010s – Growth Across Australia

Over time, ITI expanded to include 9 distribution sites across Australia, over 130,000m² of undercover storage, and a remanufacturing and treating facility in Chile, alongside operations in Indonesia. Its reputation for quality and service excellence earned ITI numerous industry awards.

2019 – Expansion into New Zealand

In 2019, ITI Group Australia expanded into New Zealand with the acquisition of Timspec Timber Specialists. The company became ITI Timspec, combining trusted local expertise with the global strength of the wider ITI Group.

From this point, ITI NZ began operating across three sites: Auckland, Carterton and Christchurch, enabling us to serve customers nationwide with greater reach and efficiency.

2022 – Auckland Showroom Opens

In 2022, ITI NZ opened its Auckland Showroom, built using its own timber products. The showroom reflects ITI’s commitment to design and sustainability, while serving as a hub for architects, designers, and builders through events, CPD sessions, and product showcases.

2023 – Rebrand to ITI NZ

The following year, the company rebranded as ITI NZ Ltd, signalling a bold new chapter and a renewed commitment to supplying premium, sustainable timber solutions nationwide.

2025 – Rosenfeld Kidson Joins ITI

In 2025, ITI Group acquired Rosenfeld Kidson, a company carrying the Liggins family legacy of 94 years in the New Zealand timber industry. This acquisition not only honours their heritage but also strengthens ITI NZ with specialist skills and deeper expertise to shape the future of timber in New Zealand.

2026: Hermpac Joins ITI NZ

In 2026, ITI NZ agreed to acquire Herman Pacific Ltd, widely known as Hermpac, one of New Zealand’s largest and most respected specialist timber distributors. Founded as a family owned business by Graeme Carter, Hermpac built its reputation through deep product knowledge, trusted relationships, quality sourcing and strong expertise in premium appearance and specialty timber, particularly cedar cladding.

The acquisition further strengthens ITI NZ’s position in the New Zealand timber market, adding another respected heritage brand, specialist knowledge and a strong customer base to the wider ITI Group.
